Payment
By cheque, cash, credit card, debit or e-transfer. A receipt will be provided to you. With the exception of VAC (POC-12) clients, I do not bill directly to insurance companies. If you have coverage, you can submit your paid receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Tax Receipts
Counselling and Psychotherapy fees are considered to be medical expenses for tax purposes, and may be claimed on your income tax form.
Please be aware that MSI does not cover the costs of seeing a Psychologist or Registered Counselling Therapist in Nova Scotia.
Private Insurance Plans
Some insurers will fully or partially reimburse the services of a Registered Counselling Therapist (RCT/RCT-C) and some do not. I am a registered health care provider with Medavie Blue Cross and with Greenshield Extended health. Desjardins, Great West Life, Manulife, Sun Life Financial have also recognized the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT) as a regulatory body and its licensed RCTs and RCT-Cs as service providers. This recognition is only valid in those cases where an employer, organization, or corporate client has included RCTs as service providers under their particular plan. Payment for claims for services will only be approved when RCTs are included as service providers under a particular plan. Please check with your plan administrator.
I am an approved EAP provider for the Nova Scotia Workers’ Compensation Board.
I am an external provider for Veterans Affairs Canada (Programs of Choice (POC-12), click here to view information about this program.
I am an approved provider as a counselling therapist with the Victim Services Criminal Injuries Counselling Program, Nova Scotia Department of Justice. Click here to view information about this program.
Please note that the above programs only partially cover the cost of the counselling therapy service. In the case of VAC and Victim Services, coverage is provided UP TO eighty-five (85) dollars per session. Please be aware that the client is responsible to provide for the remainder of the fee.
I am also an approved provider for a number of extended health insurance providers, including:
